Clara is a gifted young Mexican surfer whose talent earns her a coveted invitation to compete in an international surf competition in Huntington Beach, California. But for Clara, getting to the competition is almost as daunting as winning it.

With little more than a surfboard, a backpack, and some tamales, Clara and her companions embark on a dangerous journey across the open ocean, leaving the familiar roads behind. Their passage is filled with uncertainty and unexpected encounters; from Mexican Marines and treacherous dark waters to a breathtaking nighttime swim alongside glowing dolphins.

When Clara finally reaches the United States, she begins a new life in a tiny room in East Los Angeles with her childhood prima Betty and Betty’s soon-to-be fiancé, Thomas. With Thomas’s friend Tony providing a daily ride to the beach, Clara trains relentlessly, determined to prove that she belongs among the best.

At the beach, Clara meets Lisa, a talented local champion and her direct competition. What begins as a rivalry develops into an unexpected friendship rooted in their shared love of surfing.
